From the Andes to the Negev – A Journey of Dream and Discovery

Imagine a journey that begins high in the Andes mountains of South America — nearly 4,000 meters above sea level — and ends in the heart of the Israeli desert. This is the story of the Alpaca Farm: a one-of-a-kind haven where desert nature, adventure, and a deep love for animals come together.

It all began with a dream — to raise a unique, gentle animal not intended for meat, but for companionship and craft. On their journey to the Andes, Ilan and Naama Dvir first encountered alpacas and llamas. They were captivated by their beauty, their soft and luxurious fleece, their calm temperament, and their graceful movements. It was love at first sight — and they knew they had to bring these incredible animals home to Israel.

From the Andes to the Negev – Bringing a Dream to Life

For months, Ilan and Naama journeyed through the villages of Indigenous communities — descendants of the legendary Inca Empire — learning just how central alpacas were to their way of life: prized for their luxurious wool, used to carry loads across mountain trails, and even honored in ancient rituals.
After much research and observation, they carefully chose the finest alpacas they could find — and brought them to Israel.

When searching for a home for their new herd, it became clear that the place needed to be high, dry, wide open, and stunningly beautiful. That’s how they discovered the Negev Highlands, in the wild lands near Mitzpe Ramon — the perfect spot.
There, blending raw desert nature with a pioneering vision, they founded the Alpaca Farm — a heartwarming and truly unique sanctuary, unlike anything else in Israel.

The Alpaca Farm is here to welcome you

In the early years, Ilan and Naama lived a quiet life on their small farm, raising their alpacas with devotion.
Every spring, Ilan would gently shear their luxurious fleece and sell it to textile factories in the Kiryat Gat area. But as time went on, the factories closed, and the entire textile industry in Israel declined.

With a growing family to support — a lively herd of alpacas, llamas, and horses, as well as children who were the next generation of the dream — Ilan and Naama knew they had to find a new source of income.

Since the very first day of the farm, curious visitors had been stopping by to meet the alpacas and the couple who brought them to Israel. It soon became clear that this wasn’t just a farm — it was an experience worth sharing.

And so, the tourism side of the Alpaca Farm was born. To this day, it offers a unique and unforgettable experience, welcoming visitors of all ages and from all over the world — inviting them to step inside a living dream, and become part of its magic, if only for a moment.

Over 1.5 million visitors have already fallen in love, Now it’s your turn to discover the magic!
